Campania, where Raffaele Troisi makes this lovely Greco di Tufo, is an emerging region with an ancient tradition (including Falernian, the best wine of Classical Rome), and is an example of the spectacular depth of quality available across the peninsula. Medium-bodied, with lovely fruit and great acidity, it is refreshing and textured, with a chaser of ginger and clove notes. Featuring peach and pear, with yellow fruit, apricot and persimmon, a touch of pink grapefruit, and a smoky minerality drawn from the volcanic soils of the area. Altitude provides cool nights that keep the acidity high, while the abundant sun gives rich fruit; together, you get a wine with both sides solidly nailed down.
