Moissenet-Bonnard Les Chazots Chardonnay 2014

This might seem like a simple Bourgogne Blanc, but Moissenet-Bonnard is not capable of making a simple wine. Though only AOC Burgundy, it is from a single plot of ground (Les Chazots) and shows the unity of a single terroir, and the unmistakable signature of a careful, painstaking vigneron proud of his (and her: Jean-Louis is now assisted by his daughter Emmanuelle-Sophie) wine. Sustainably farmed, aged in neutral wood to preserve the inherent freshness of Les Chazots, it gives a great deal for the price. Of a different style from the rich, oaky style so many people associate with Chardonnay, this is a wine with finesse, character, and depth. Red apple, Bosc and Anjou pear fruit, with apricot, white flowers, and white peach notes, a fine acidity that carries it all effortlessly, and a clean, lingering finish that makes it a natural summer quaffer. It is a fine introduction to the wines of this Domaine, and the lighter style of white Burgundy.

Pairing: Pair it with soft cheeses such as chèvre, fresh-caught trout, or mushroom risotto.
