One reason to drink this wine is because it is one of only a few still, red Trepat bottlings made, it being a variety usually blended into still or cava rosés. That’s a novelty reason, however, and at NWM we believe there’s only one reason to drink any wine: it’s delicious! Fortunately, you can put another notch in your belt of novel varieties and enjoy a delicious red at the same time. Native to Cataluña and grown almost nowhere else, Trepat makes a delicate, light-bodied red, the kind that wine professionals gravitate to because of its food-friendliness. On the nose, it shows red fruit and plums, with undertones of oak and minerality, an inviting and seductive introduction. The palate does not disappoint, showing red cherry, plum, spice, and a touch of bitter dark chocolate on the finish. Subtle, elegant, well-balanced, and flat-out drinkable, this is a Discovery.
Pairing: Find out how good with a seared tuna steak, vegetarian bean and barley soup, or jamón ibérico.
