Chateau Tire Pe 2013

The Barraults are unusual Bordelaise winemakers in a number of ways. In a region where enormous holdings make tens or even hundreds of thousands of cases and chateaux are often as not held by corporations, they have a small family-owned and run domaine making fewer than 5,000 cases a year. Bordeaux is also not known to prize organic, low-intervention winemaking, yet here they are, plowing by horse, Ecocert-certified, grass growing full between the vines. But it works, and works very well, as you’ll see when you put it in your glass. A cooled-down fermentation allows for soft extraction of fruit and tannin, giving an eminently drinkable wine of surprising depth. Aged in concrete and bottled without filtration, it’s a young-drinking Bordeaux with soft blackberry and currant fruit, plush but not squishy tannins (if you follow us), and a nice lift of red fruit to help it finish clean.

Pairing: Great for anyone wanting a nice glass for guests, it will also pair well with hearty lentil stew, grilled suckling pig, or beef burritos.
